Giovedì 19 febbraio 2015 Giò Marconi inaugura YES WE’RE OPEN, mostra collettiva con cui la galleria milanese festeggia il trasferimento nel nuovo spazio di via Tadino 20 in occasione dei suoi venticinque anni di attività.
Con una selezione di opere di ventisette artisti della sua scuderia – Franz Ackermann, Atelier Van Lieshout, Trisha Baga, Rosa Barba, Will Benedict, John Bock, Kerstin Brätsch, Matthew Brannon, André Butzer, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Günther Förg, Simon Fujiwara, Nikolas Gambaroff, Wade Guyton, Allison Katz, Annette Kelm, Sharon Lockhart, Oliver Osborne, Jorge Pardo, Tobias Rehberger, Markus Schinwald, Dasha Shishkin, Lucie Stahl, Grazia Toderi, Francesco Vezzoli, Fredrik Værslev e Amelie von Wulffen – Giò Marconi celebra oggi un percorso importante, iniziato nel 1990 accanto al padre Giorgio, subito dopo l’esperienza di Studio Marconi 17, un primo spazio laboratorio sperimentale per giovani artisti, critici e operatori culturali gestito da Gio’. In venticinque anni di attività la galleria ha sviluppato una linea espositiva coerente, affiancando scelte coraggiose e in anticipo sui tempi – come la prima personale italiana dei fratelli Chapman nel 1996 o la retrospettiva di Martin Kippenberger nel 1990 – a un costante lavoro di talent scouting rivolto ai più interessanti artisti emergenti nel panorama internazionale, e alla valorizzazione di artisti storici che fino al 1992 avevano lavorato con il padre allo Studio Marconi.
Profondamente radicata a Milano, alla sua storia e al suo futuro, la galleria Giò Marconi si sposta oggi nella nuova sede di via Tadino 20, all’interno di uno spazio completamente disegnato da KUEHN MALVEZZI, studio berlinese fondato nel 2001 dagli architetti Simona Malvezzi e Wilfried e Johannes Kuehn e specializzato nella progettazione di spazi espositivi e museali e nell’allestimento di collezioni pubbliche e private di tutto il mondo.
L’immagine grafica della mostra YES WE’RE OPEN è stata ideata da Chris Rehberger, fondatore dell’agenzia di graphic design berlinese Double Standards, che ha all’attivo collaborazioni con artisti, musei e fondazioni d’arte contemporanea in tutto il pianeta e che collabora con la galleria Giò Marconi dal 2003.In occasione dell’opening Hans Berg ipnotizzerà il pubblico facendo fluire la sua seducente club music da un etereo scenario di cavi e dispostivi elettronici. Raffinato ed eclettico, oltre a portare i suoi live set in tutto il mondo, Hans Berg accompagna con le sue musiche evocative i video e le installazioni della celebre artista Nathalie Djurberg.

YES WE’RE OPEN will be opening on Thursday 19th February at Giò Marconi. This group show will mark the fact that the Milanese gallery is moving premises to a new space at via Tadino 20 to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary in business.
It will be displaying works by twenty-seven of its own artists – Franz Ackermann, Atelier Van Lieshout, Trisha Baga, Rosa Barba, Will Benedict, John Bock, Kerstin Brätsch, Matthew Brannon, André Butzer, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Günther Förg, Simon Fujiwara, Nikolas Gambaroff, Wade Guyton, Allison Katz, Annette Kelm, Sharon Lockhart, Oliver Osborne, Jorge Pardo, Tobias Rehberger, Markus Schinwald, Dasha Shishkin, Lucie Stahl, Grazia Toderi, Francesco Vezzoli, Fredrik Værslev and Amelie von Wulffen –Giò Marconi is celebrating an important career that began in 1990 working alongside his father Giorgio after first gaining some experience at Studio Marconi 17, an initial experimental workshop space run by Giò for young artists, critics and people working in the culture industry. Over a period of twenty-five years since it first opened, the gallery has developed its own consistent approach to exhibiting, combining brave choices well ahead of their time - such as the first solo exhibition by the Chapman brothers in Italy held in 1996 or the retrospective on Martin Kippenberger held in 1990 - with continual talent scouting work aimed at discovering the most interesting up-and-coming artists on the international scene and a focusing on past artists, who worked with his father at Studio Marconi until 1992.
Deeply rooted in Milan's own history and future, Giò Marconi gallery is now moving to its new location in Via Tadino 20, inside a space that has been totally redesigned by KUEHN MALVEZZI, a Berlin-based firm founded in 2001 by the architects Simona Malvezzi and Wilfried and Johannes Kuehn, which specialises in designing exhibition-museum spaces and installing public-private collections from all over the world.
The graphics for the YES WE'RE OPEN exhibition were designed by Chris Rehberger, the founder of Double Standards Graphics Agency based in Berlin, who has already worked with artists, museums and contemporary art foundations from all over the planet and who has been working with Giò Marconi Gallery since 2003.
During the opening Hans Berg will hypnotize the audience with his enthralling club music conjured from an ethereal landscape made of wires and electronic devices. Refined and eclectic, Hans Berg travels the world with his live sets and he accompanies with his evocative music, the video and the installations of the celebrated artist Nathalie Djurberg.
