Wade Guyton
Inaugurazione: 29 Gennaio 2009 dalle 18 alle 21
30 gennaio - 19 marzo 2009

Vive e lavora a New York.

Opening: Thursday, 29 January 2008; 7pm - 9pm
January 30 - March 19, 2009
From Tuesday to Saturday; 11am - 7pm
In the same evening will take place the openings at Raffaella Cortese gallery with T.J.Wilcox and at francesca kaufmann gallery with Thomas Zipp.
On Thursday, the 29th of November, Gió Marconi will be pleased to present Wade Guyton's solo exhibition at the gallery groundfloor.
Wade Guyton presents a new major series of works the artist casually describes as "stripes".
The works are produced by printing the same digital file at least twice on each piece of folded linen. The black stripes are drawn in Photoshop.
They appear to be an enlarged detail of one of his black monochromes in which half of the heads are clogged producing wide black and white stripes - or gaps. And they resemble a striped bathing suit worn by a model used in his Portikus poster- a found image.
The process is similar to his previous works. The Epson 9600 Ultrachrome printer he uses has a media capacity of 44 inches.
The artist folds the pre-primed linen and alternates printing on front/ back, left/right. Each piece transcribes a visual record of the printer's actions: the trace of movement of the print heads, the varying states of their clogged-ness, the track marks of the wheels on wet ink are all mixed with the scratches and smears on the paintings from being dragged across the floor to be fed back again into the printer.
Wade Guyton was born in 1972 in Hammond, Indiana. He obtained BFA at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Among the solo exhibitions: Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, 2008; Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris, 2008;LAXART, Los Angeles (GuytonWalker), 2008; Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna- MAMbo, curated by Andrea Viliani (GuytonWalker), 2008; Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York, 2007; Galerie Francesa Pia, Zürich, 2007; Galerie Gisela Capitain, Cologne, 2007; The Suburban, Chicago, 2007; Wade Guyton, Haubrokshows, Berlin, 2006; Paintings, Westlondonprojects, London, 2006; GuytonWalker: Empire Strikes Back, (GuytonWalker), Carpenter Center, Harvard, 2006; University, Cambridge, 2006; Color, Power & Style, Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York, 2006; Hard Hat Editions, Geneva, 2006; La Salle de Bains, Lyon, 2006; Gavlak, West Palm BeachColor, Power & Style, Kunstverein in Hamburg, Hamburg, 2005; Galerie Francesca Pia, Bern, 2005; Art 36 Statements, Galerie Francesca Pia, Basel Art Fair, Basel, 2005; The Failever of Judgement, Part III, (GuytonWalker), Greene Naftali Gallery, New York, 2005; Objects are Much More Familiar, Power House, Memphis, 2004; The Failever of Judgement, (GuytonWalker),presented by Greene Naftali Gallery,Reinschau, Cologne, 2004; XXXXX BBB XXXXXFFFFFF FFFF, (GuytonWalker), Midway Contemporary, St. Paul, 2004; Elements of an Incomplete Map, Artists Space, New York, 2003; Andrew Kreps Gallery Project Space, New York, 1999; I suoi lavori sono nelle collezioni the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; e Musee d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, Ginevra.
